Improper care of teeth causes hardening of the plaque (through the transfer of salt and saliva) and its transformation into tartar. If you can see dark lines along the gingiva and your gums are swollen and infected, the cause is tartar. Periodontitis has set in. A tooth has been lost, but its root remains. Can a new tooth be constructed over it?

Such roots require careful inspection. If the root tissue is strong, extends over the gum-line, and its canal has been filled (or can be filled), it can serve as a base for the construction of a new tooth. To accomplish this, a stem or pored insert is fitted into the root and construction takes place with the aid of photopolymers or crowns.

I had a cavity filled but food now gets trapped between the filled tooth and adjacent teeth. My gums also bleed at this place. What can be done?

Clearance between teeth is normally tight, allowing floss to pass between them with light resistance. A properly filled cavity should renew the tight fit between teeth. If floss passes between a filled tooth and an adjacent tooth freely, the filling should be adjusted or redone.

Modern techniques allow for not filing or crowning adjacent teeth in such circumstances. We offer our patients an adhesive bridge. Its essence consists of a glass fibre frame, which is fixed to the two teeth adjacent to the pulled tooth. A tooth made of photo-polymer material is "grown" over it. This work results in such a cosmetically natural look that a bystander will not be able to tell the false tooth from natural teeth.
